I was so lucky to be able to work with Jordyn and Zak at their wedding last summer in the stunning Tumwater Ballroom. I met Jordan a few years ago at a NW Wed Pro meeting when she started working for Sugar Street Bakery, and we instantly clicked.
When she asked if I’d be willing to be their wedding photographer, I just couldn’t pass up the chance. I was so excited to be there to capture their big day. -Amber Hempen
"I met the marvelous Zak Cooper at a house warming party about 4 years ago. We discovered we had a lot in common and decided to trade emails. (talk about an ancient form of communication.) After about 2 weeks of sending silly jokes and music and page long emails talking about the most random stuff, we decided to meet up for our very favorite meal: breakfast for dinner.
We ended up hanging out and talking for hours without realizing any time had passed. We became fast friends and hung out at almost any and every opportunity.
One of our favorite places to frequent was Lucia Falls. One day, we were perched on the cliff, chatting away. Zak professed that he had fallen for me- and I realized that spending time with him was more fun than any date I had been on in years. So we decided to give “us” a shot.
After about a year together, I was horribly sick and ended up in the hospital for almost 2 months. The entire time, Zak was there- sleeping on the too small window seat, taking time off work, and just being what I needed at that time. That’s when I knew that he was it.
Last Memorial Day, we trekked to our spot again, where he asked me to spend the rest of my life by his side.
We had already been through so much together that we just wanted to get started as husband and wife, and set the wedding date for 3 months out.
If you’ve got to plan a wedding in 3 months, it helps to be in the industry! We were able to snag one of my favorite venues, Tumwater Ballroom, with food by Sugar Street Bistro. Their staff is truly amazing! Joe from Bust a Move DJ Services helped me be completely comfortable with not having traditional ceremony music. I even walked out to the Imperial March! It set the perfect tone for the rest of the evening. Fun, a little bit silly, and a lot of love.
Amber Hempen was there clicking away, capturing the best night of my life so far, and keeping everyone at ease at the same time. I was feeling so beautiful and pampered with my hair and makeup done by the wonderful Maresah Rogers at GlamBar.
Decorations were a work of love with friends and family helping DIY some awesome projects and set up the entire event. I took the opportunity to save some funds and bake the cupcakes myself- as well as make a fake cake for pictures that was a design that I’ve always wanted to do. It was a lot to do the week of my wedding, but I wouldn’t change a thing!
Zak coming into my life 4 years ago, was truly the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’ve never met someone so loving, supportive and incredibly patient. I’m so very excited to see what the future holds for us." Jordyn Cooper
